This year we are excited to have talented Gail E Kelly joining us at the Turret House in Jamestown. She will have a collection of pottery, sculptures, mugs, and new toad houses, along with her beautiful glass art.

Abstracted Nature in Glass and Clay
Artist Statement Gail E. Kelly
I experience nature intimately. I understand my place in the world through nature. I search for connections between daily life and nature. I grew up in southern California, climbing eucalyptus trees and stealing exotic fruits from neighbors’ yards. I express ideas about the world and my place in it by creating clay metaphors and analogies. As I get older I am more interested in how forces of nature interact and the physical evidence of those converging processes; how people react to, associate with and interpret the resulting forms. Desired or not, we are all part of these earthly processes. Some aspects we can control- education; some we can delay- gravity; others we must simply acknowledge and accept- maturation and entropy. Reactive or proactive, we are all part of the cosmic process of making and unmaking. Working with clay; a tactile, responsive, natural material is satisfying to me.
Gail will have a few new Toad Houses, some sculpture vases, stained glass, and a variety of pottery.
I met Gail a few years ago while I was an art resident in Kinston's smART Program. She now lives locally in Trinity. I learned many things when I was in Kinston, but I would say the most treasured was finding an artist friend, Gail. I am so happy she now lives just a few miles away.
