"I think challenge, inspiration and light coincides with almost every art work I create. Since I started my canvas art while living in Charleston, SC, I often use a color palette of sunrises, sunsets and soothing coastal waters.
As a finisher artist I love to feel the paint and the colors during the process to create. I work with several different mediums, metallic pastes, plasters, paints, minerals, acrylic, oil, and with every piece I use gold, silver or copper metal leaf, which gives a natural element of light, and edge."
Crystal continues her education in wall finishes to stay current with design trends. colors and styles. This adds another dimension of interest to her works and panel art finishing.
Crystal's is a working artist at The Sternberger Artist Center 712 Summit Ave in Greensboro. Her art resides in many homes in the southeast, and currently shows work in Greensboro NC, Columbia SC. Richmond, VA and Charleston, SC.
Art has found a home with me for over 22 years now. Canvas art was discovered about 9 years ago when faux finishing, and my finishing business had slowed down. During that time there were many changes I needed to adapt to. Some were painful, some were invigorating, but through it all I still had a longing to create.
So my canvas art journey started while I was living in the lovely surroundings of Charleston, SC.
I had a request from a past teacher in Colorado. He saw my finishing projects on fb and he asked if I could paint a painting for him--And That is where it all started!
I bought a large canvas and paced the floor looking at that blank canvas.
It took 2 weeks of staring at that blank canvas, before I had the courage to start.
It's funny because I had worked on scaffold and ladders working large scale multi layer finishes, but that 36 x 48 canvas scared me so!!
Finally, one day, I just started painting--and this was my very first commission.
I was fortunate to create my canvas art near the coast. I so loved the reflection and the waters on the beach. Often I found myself racing the clock to catch the most abundant sunrises, vivid and glowing of colors so rich I had seen nowhere else. It was a time of growth and exploration that brought my art journey and curiosity to where it is today.
I moved from Charleston a few years ago, with my husband Dave.
We currently reside near Greensboro, in the country, Stokesdale, NC.
My studio is in Greensboro NC at The Sternberger Artist Center.
